Appreciating Goa

Take the smallest state in India and recite its history,
Let the Portuguese invade the land
And make it their own

Remove the Portuguese after 450 years
And add some native people
Declare independence in 1987 then stir vigorously.

Mix some honest humanity,
and a serving of Christianity.
And voilà! We’re halfway done.

Next take a blend 400 birds,
And cover half the land with forests,
Combine with Konkani language words,
And turn up the heat.

Sprinkle over 7,000 bars
and you’ve got sweet spot in India
Let the tourism boil for some time

Then add to the melting pot.
Leave the ingredients to simmer.
As they mix and blend allow their cultures to flow
Binding them together.

Allow time to be cool.

Add Goa day
And enjoy the unity

Note: All the ingredients have made Goa what it is today, whether good or bad. So spread the equality and give justice to all.

Rainy day sonnet

Shall I compare thee to a rainy day?
Thou art more bright and more tame
Harsh light rays do break the pleasant grey
And monsoon’s stay hath been a shame

Sometimes too bright the life of heaven shines
And often rain’s beauty is obscured
And every lovely being sees the signs
Of a rainy day unassured

But thy eternal rain will never fade
Nor thy love for food
Nor thy calming shade
When thou art bound in my poetic brood

So long as monsoon lives and rains
So long blood may be in your veins

One woman, one story, one life

My concept for this artwork is that the background is a frame showing the most important memories of the woman’s life. Her right eye is red as it represents all the tragedy in her life, while her left eye is yellow, a symbol of hope to overcome those tragedies.
